  Star Trek 2009

  Even if you’re not a Trekkie (like me), there is no way you don’t get chills when you see the Enterprise for the first time in this movie. And the prologue with the Kelvin will make you cry every time. This is a solid sci-fi/action movie that uses the Trek lore and characters in interesting ways. But more than that, it gives fresh takes on the characters with Karl Urban’s Bones and Simon Pegg’s Scotty being particular standouts.

  This is definitely a microcosm/first look at how Christopher Nolan became the director he is today, including an interesting twist and timeline shenanigans that really make you pay attention.

  This is the horror movie that got me into watching horror movies just because I loved the Losers going through their summer and tolerated the horror elements that punctuated all the Stand by Me-esque scenes.
