It 1990
A servicable adaptation of the book- It condenses an 1,153 page book into a 3 hour TV movie fairly well. It certainly shows its age these days, but it’s an ambitous effort that mostly pays off well. Unfortunately this condensed version glosses over some of the most effective parts (well ONE scene is thankfully not here), and the Beverly Marsh character is a pale shadow of her source character.

Dune 2021
While it makes sense to hold off on making Part Two (generally audiences don’t like sci-fi films about politics and interstellar trade), it’s a shame because the movie just up and ended on me just as I was really getting invested. In fact, I feel like the last twenty minutes or so were just there to whet your appetite for more, which is a serious achievement for a luxuriously-paced space opera set on a barren desert planet. In all, I thought it was quite rich and dazzling, and it becomes easier to swallow on subsequent viewings.
