    The Bong almost hit.

It was ok- got to see it in IMAX which was very cool, but the story was just ok. There were 17 or 18 ways this could have been a masterpiece but shallow characters and a thin story keep it from its potential. The villain(s) were disappointing- while succeeding in making some social commentary they ultimately fail to provide depth or any really meaningful messaging. So many topics are addressed- threats to democracy, impacts of colonialization,…

As with all the Ghibli films I've seen, the atmosphere of the settings is what stands out most to me in my mind. There's something about being in a place that this film and others like it capture which I have not yet found in Western cinema.

Powerful and important story told with compassion. Very gripping and intense, incredible suspense in some moments. I don't know anything about this film's reputation for historical accuracy, but it felt true. Worth watching for the skillful action scenes, great acting from Song Kang-ho and Thomas Kretschmann, and to remember the events portrayed.

Don't discount the importance of journalists... or taxi drivers.
