  I understand why some people found this tedious or even offensive, but. This film is for the following audiences: alcoholics (current and ex-), addicts (ditto), high modernism fetishists, people who have been on a trip to a foreign country with the wrong person, gen x, snobs with an intimate knowledge of what “limerence” means, incels, volcels, convicted petty criminals, people with concealed but severe emotional problems, mommy-issues cinephiles, melancholic louts, people who have spent at least one Christmas Day without speaking to a single other person—probably a few others I’m forgetting 

  I don’t like people who apologize over breakfast.

  Fantastic schizophrenic animation, frenetic joke pacing and its jazzy labile riffs on staid nerd culture make this worth watching, it's deeply of its moment. If I'm being generous, the multiple cop fathers (a profession whose practitioners have like a 50% rate of beating their wives and kids) who try to do the right thing, who really want to be good patriarchs and work up a sweat trying to understand their strange alienated children, represents a revealing contemporary fantasy.
