A Real Pain 2024
Such a graceful and understated movie. Hard to describe the multiple ways which this works and avoids pitfalls.
Also, this is oddly in conversation with the Brutalist. It all takes place in the epilogue. Too much to process at the moment.

Pretty Woman 1990
My two older sisters gave quite different reviews of this movie. So I decided to check it out as it’s quite famous and is perhaps Julia Roberts most iconic performance.
I wasn’t as much disappointed as I was disturbed.
Most of Pretty Woman lives in romantic comedy territory; fantastical, romantic -- it’s not dealing with real life or trying to comment on it. For most romantic comedies, that’s ok. The stakes are low because there’s little potential for harm.
