  Jacques Demy adapts a manga on the French Revolution with a British cast, there’s nothing to say more. I was fairly surprised by a number of reviewers calling it socialist / anti-capitalist (while capitalism is absent from the film) and associating the Revolution with gender freedom (while the revolutionary scenes are the rare scenes where Oscar is a very conventional woman)…
