While everyone else was watching the Superbowl (go birds), my local theater was screening and adapted version of Buster Keaton's "Sherlock Jr" (1924), but the original score was removed and in its place was various R.E.M. songs. I've absorbed so many of these scenes in passing and through cultural osmosis, but finally sitting down to watch it to see how it all connects was really something. The scenes that no one ever talks about really stood out! The calmness and emptiness of this vast hotel, to the sudden spikes of horrific imagery really jolted me out of my seat! Jack stole the show, but Shelly and really every character plays their part so well. That time really flew by, I was so absorbed!!

One of those movies where the premise is super easy to pick up, it doesn't hide anything from you and you feel like you know where it's going... but it constantly surprises you. Lesser movies would have stopped , but this movie just kept going. Feminists, film buffs, horror fans - any different kinds of people can walk away from this movie appreciating something, if you can stomach it. It genuinely does everything super well.
