The past is what we make use of in the present, according to Henri Bergson.

Considering recent events, especially the political weaponization of the American legal system to silence oppositional voices and terrify any who would stand with the accused, I needed to revisit Giuliano Montaldo’s searing docudrama.

Far from a perfect film, it is nonetheless a stirring and inspiring reminder that the fight for a better world is gonna be a long one. When we give an inch those bastards will try their best to take a mile. So folks, never give an inch.

I’ve watched this many times but until last night, sharing it with 750 people on the glorious Music Box screen, I suppose I hadn’t really seen it.

I guess I never really realized how fully and completely this is a film about time itself. Clocks, schedules, appointments, memories, eras, moments, eternities, and everywhere the stench of death. Leone clings to every minute desperately as the sands of time slip through his fingers. Everything has happened, will happen, and is happening…

Cringe. Makes no sense. Why did he spray paint all over his floor? No one would live in a house like that. Pattinson was on fuckin xanax. Y’all need to get it through your thick skulls, Batman is fash. So much angst amounting to nothing. 3 hours of empty gestures and goofy poses. Why does cat woman walk like that all the time? You can’t go for gritty realism and have everyone acting like cartoon characters. Try hard shit. Anyone…
