Judge Archer 2012
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I’m not going to pretend like I totally understood all the plot details, but it hardly matters when the visuals are this poetic. A tragic backstory unfolds during a rough wind, a close-up duel leaves an ancestral shrine knocked over, the death of a commander causes his accordion to let out a dying breath; Haofeng’s imagination is running wild, resulting in the one of the most beautiful martial arts movies I’ve ever seen. And all of this is without even mentioning the excellent fight choreography, which turns everything from a string to a hat into a viable weapon. Xu Haofeng is something else.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off 2023
Love spending time with the side characters but the movie version’s non-stop pace is more my speed.

Anora 2024
Mikey Madison is great. The henchmen are great. I had a good time. Just can’t shake the feeling that Baker dropped the ball with Ani’s character. She’s got no interiority until the very last scene, and her actions range from street-smart to unbelievably naive based on whatever any given scene needs. Bad sign when the titular character is left this unexplored.
