  Rhiannon Rodriguez' drawings/concept art look so beautiful, it's a shame that the animation team only had three weeks time. That sadly explains why Cartoon-Billie looks like shit.

  Los Angeles Plays Itself 2003

  An overlong and almost overindulgent video essay about how Los Angeles is portrayed in movies. I still liked it a lot: My watchlist gained a lot of new entries and with it's length and format it remains me of the video essays of the likes of Hbomberguy, Errant Signal, Jacob Geller and Jenny Nicholson. I just wished I could have watched it instead in small portions on YouTube while I ate my lunch. 😅

  I only knew three things about The Straight Story before I watched it:
  1. It's about an old man driving on a lawnmower to visit his brother.
  2. It's, together with Dune, one of the least Lynchian movies David Lynch did.
  3. It feels like a John Deere commercial.

  Poor Things 2023

  "I'm going to punch this baby."

  Poor Things is an absurd, almost Lynchian comedy and I absolutely loved it. What a wonderful film with a fantastic Emma Stone. A beautiful movie with many beautiful sets, costumes and "furious jumping". Bella Baxter is now one of my favorite movie characters.
