I was instantly mesmerized by Netflix latest limited series, Adolescence. Each episode filmed as one continuous shot, the series opens with the arrest of a young teenager, ripped from his home by the feds and charged with a serious crime. From there it evolves into a heart-wrenching story about youth in today’s society, external pressures, cruelty and family. Incredible. One of the best spy thrillers I’ve seen with an eerily lack of action. It’s a tangled web unwoven. It’s brilliantly written and the ensemble cast drop no stones in its execution. Soderbergh holds little back in reminding you why he is one of the best filmmakers of all time. Predictably chastised by film critics due to a fairly formulaic plot, reviews fail to encompass terrific performances by Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo. The anguish and pain of depravation and desolation that a reputable film critic will never understand provide an easy avenue to ignore how well crafted this movie actually is in its performance. Yes there are cliches but Holland carries this. It’s a little bit Rum Diary meets Heat at times, this movie leaves little avenue for imagination but provides a poignant allegory for the repercussions of life unrelenting 7/10

Kieran Caulkin  reminds us that it is okay to be authentic in this Jesse Eisenberg directed and written film; and Jesse reminds us that we are all a real pain to someone at some point some way. In A Real Pain, two cousins embark on a journey through Poland to find a deeper understanding of their heritage after the passing of their grandmother. It is a well-crafted traveler story with plenty of laughs and cringe moments. Kieran carries the movie,…
