This was number 1 on a random best of Werner Herzog list. It’s a relaxing movie to watch. The highest level of sophistication can be well placed nature shots with good music. Lots of that. Inspiring story? Yes I’d say so, although it’s a tad unrealistic IMO. I think if I were locked in a dungeon from birth till like 40 I’d be a bit more unhinged than this sweet fellow. Was I a bit bored at points, yea. Was I scrolling Twitter throughout , maybe. This movie is food for the soul.
I wanted to give this 5 stars. It had me dead to rights for the first half hour. My style exactly. Nostalgia low fi emotional core. Just beautiful. Shitty digital camera vibes. Little kids getting into trouble.
It’s also anthropological. A study of American culture in low income Ohio circa 1997.

Totally normal movie!! Will go along well with all the other biopics. Blahhhh. Normal ass movie. Not bad!!! Not bad , honestly. Nice songs. Wasn’t bothered by Timmy Tim. He’s good. Not great!!!! So don’t get it twisted. This will be great for streaming. Not for the theatre. Hope you enjoyed my first letterbox’d review!!!
Movies can have different criteria to achieve greatness. Acting, writing, plot, character development, visuals, themes, music…. I don’t believe you have to have it all to be great. One or two will do. This movie achieves greatness in its unique ability to craft cinematic tableaus that have psychic resonance beyond being visually striking.
