On overcoming and growing through change and all its forms. Adolescence, growing old, changing relationships, changing times, all depicted so vividly and genuinely, with care to show them with dimension and feeling.

This movie is a reminder on why it’s important to have a deep well of influences and experience and references. What comes out of it is so rich. Want to do what he does with the music, the photography, the montage clips. Feels like more than just any other film.

This film doesn’t explicitly say it’s a trans story, but it sure as heck is conveying something deep about it. Behind the glows of the lights, suburban experience, the music, and the surrealism are real experiences and emotions. It takes the experience of being trans in the lenses of being active and passive. What it takes to live as a trans person is enormous and is death, and what happens when you passively stand back and let time pass is another kind of death altogether.

I’m glad this exists and that I watched this. Feels important.

The men were all sooo angry and sooo dramatic lol

On another note, it was a movie of a bunch of men in a room and their faces close up but it was so engaging. You can feel the heat, the humidity, the impatience. Several scenes were seared into my mind, and it was a very interesting kind of a whodunit type of film. You get all the information right off the bat and work your way through it with everyone else, and you don’t know who anyone is but you meet all of them somehow.

Was interesting actually knowing the director this time around and so I noticed more this second watch. And I can’t believe they chose each other despite. Not sure if that’s great irl but what a story.
