Solid. A great story that is continuously driven forward. Sometimes a little too on beat and linear, and maybe without a deeper exploration of the characters or broader themes, but it tells the story well so you don’t need it to do the rest.

Also crazy to recognize the locations of the film and relate to a lot of the experiences the twins have and the visuals that Denis chooses to depict. I too was a foreigner once walking through…

This one didn’t really go for me. Cinematography is useful and powerful in films but it didn’t feel that way here. Not shots that make me feel anything or work with the story to convey or uncover something more. Maybe on paper a slower, cinematic drug cartel movie sounds interesting, and while it looked nice at times, the nice shots felt a little empty and story/ characters didn’t give much to hold it up.

The men were all sooo angry and sooo dramatic lol

On another note, it was a movie of a bunch of men in a room and their faces close up but it was so engaging. You can feel the heat, the humidity, the impatience. Several scenes were seared into my mind, and it was a very interesting kind of a whodunit type of film. You get all the information right off the bat and work your way through it with everyone else, and you don’t know who anyone is but you meet all of them somehow.

Was interesting actually knowing the director this time around and so I noticed more this second watch. And I can’t believe they chose each other despite. Not sure if that’s great irl but what a story.
