No Country for Old Men 2007
Silence as a cinematic technique pervades the ethos of this film, mirroring the silence of God felt by the characters in the absurd face of violence and death. Anton Chigurh is a horrifying steward of fate, a existentially disturbing yet miltonically sublime Satan figure. Shots of those unceasingly daunting West Texas plains are picturesque and belong to a peculiar type of beauty that is nevertheless perfectly captured. Odd to say but the film does the book a suitable justice, looking forward to another watch.
