USE ILLEGAL SURFACES FOR ART!!!!!!!
may never get through this book on the Cinema of Transgression if I keep stopping every few pages to hunt down and watch one of the films it's describing because I get too excited. this one's my gender though.
loved when the mobsters did girlbullying.jpeg to a blood-covered Kyle McLachlan. for like, normal reasons
enjoyed quite a bit, but not the experience I'd hoped for -- this is Eggers' most conventional feature. love the drive, the production design not just to look at but to inhabit and inform, love the delightfully accurate vampire and occult knowledge, love Nicholas Hoult falling apart completely. my partner said it felt like a very solid new staging of a familiar play, though, and that's sort of where I stand. it doesn't have the "the past is another country"…
still don't know how to talk about this one. I've never had such a physical reaction in the cinema before. this one was looking directly into my eyes the whole time.
