  It's been a couple of days since I watched this; I wanted to let it simmer in my brain before coming up with a conclusive opinion.

  (FYI, I saw the version including overture & intermission.)

  Wow, 70 mm film looks beautiful.

  With that said, I don't think it's incredibly strong. There is an immense amount of blood, in ways that I don't think were exactly necessary (but then again, it IS Tarantino). I do think the strongest roles in this film…

  Translation: "THE FEMALE SOLDIER"

  I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie but I can say it most certainly exceeded my expectations.

  An intimate look at a woman's role in the Mexican Revolution. Unlike their role in the American Revolution, women were fighting beside men, looting small towns, cooking, and having children on the battlefield (most often due to rape). You'd often see women shooting guns while carrying a baby on their back.

  Caravaggio would be amazed at Costa's use of chiaroscuro.

  I'm really amazed when I can be so captivated by a movie while it simultaneously puts me in a dreamy state.
