  A hidden gem with a wonderful cast and a chilling crime procedural narrative, but bend in the typical 1990s postmodern chronological order. I miss productions that had their intended audiences conceived of as intelligent enough to follow and enjoy these little ambivalences and challenges.

  Insane, terrifying, and anything but subtle — a real midnight movie that has the guts to deliver the excess it portrays. Content = form. I am happy to have seen it on the big screen. This is where The Substance belongs with all its shocking, gross, overstylized impressions, and sounds. Cosmetic-ops-prone Demi Moore is the perfect choice as the lead and she is bringing a sardonic life to her character that you can just love all the way down to her chilling bones.
