Who Killed Captain Alex? 2010
Hadn't seen this one since it blew up online in 2015 and it was really great to revisit. So much humor in the tongue in cheek homemade production and the VJ Emmie rifftrack (lady being tied up and tortured, "She was caught watching Nigerian movies!") but also just a frantic fun non stop action movie with end to end DIY choreography SFX and stunts. Absolutely love it. Bruce U is a legend. Could listen to VJ Emmie over just about any movie.

Life Is Cheap... But Toilet Paper Is Expensive 1989
Very cool, very strange abstracted version of a neo-noir. Pretty solid plot and mcguffin but this is really more like a docudrama and a social barometer on Hong Kong in the late 80s, only told like an old PC point n click game, or maybe a modernist poem. Not the fallout of some youthful romance but the regrets of middle age toward the past. Sami Frey's story is narratively simple but incidentally complex, rambling, circular, and incomplete, as memory and narrative identity tend to be.…

The Cat 1992
Very fun very crazy stuff. Terrific performances from a cat and a dog. A John Woo parody as a horror movie villain. Great throwback scifi opticals and big goopy practical effects. Interesting use of 1997 as a kind of HK Y2K or 2012. Dreamier than all this madness sounds. I like it. Another reminder to watch Riki-Oh.
