I’m always happy to watch an A24 production.  This one was rough though. I was glad Faith went home, but very sorry the film doesn’t stay with her, or ever return to her later.  Franco was great as Alien and I was sad when he got killed.  Characters Candy and Brit could have changed the outcome, I wish they had.

I watched this movie because I was looking for something about adolescence. I didn't really see it in this film, but I'm not sorry I watched it. The growling was on point and really quite good! And besides I can do a pretty good impersonation of Bella Swan who has basically only four responses to everything:
1/ sneer
2/ nervous laugh (more of a chortle)
3/ biting her lip

4/ and I’m not afraid of you

God no,

I was so excited  by Barry Jenkins’s Moonlight that I decided to watch his earlier work as well.  I read it’s part of the early mumble core oeuvre, and that for this film Jenkins went through every frame of the film and washed color out according to how much he thought the characters were thinking about ‘blackness’.  The movie IS pretty scrubbed of color.  But can you imagine going thru every frame making a decision like this…?…how close the read…?

Anyway, Medicine for Melancholy?  It’s a yes!
