Slacker 1990
super cool lil love letter from linklater to the “weirdos” (post hippie freaks) of 90s Austin. $23k budget and it looks p good! First half’s a lot stronger than the second story/character wise, the guy who runs over his mom and who has a miniature drive-in set up in his dresser was a highlight for me
i liked imagining that the camera man was an alien and every time he saw a new person he started following them out of…

The Producers 1967
I think I wanted to watch this because of it’s feature in Curb.
I liked Blazing Saddles, love Spaceballs, The Producers was fine. Maybe because I basically knew what it was going in it eliminated the comedic element of surprise. It’s missing some of the juice that Mel Brooks’ bangers have.
Gene Wilder has great delivery, but it didn’t carry it for me. Mel Brooks movies are funny, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s an especially good filmmaker / director

Amazing needle drops - love that soundtrack is by Roches and she’s also in the movie. Thank god PTA didn’t put any Haim music in licorice pizza + casting, Haim’s annoying af!

Me: “Too close to home?”
Dad: “Close? That WAS home.”
I guess it dredged up psychological trauma for him lol.

Babette's Feast 1987
Chosen at random scrolling Kanopy and really glad I watched!
It’s a funny story about a grouchy Danish community living in Jutland. A French woman fleeing the Paris revolts moves there and becomes their maid and she absolutely fucks their shit up with an incredible French feast.
It’s like the joke about showing Dubstep to a Victorian child, but it’s showing Danish people good food.
Definitely my new favorite food movie - Taste of Things was great, but lacked the…
