A clear-eyed exploration of confusion, grief, disconnection. But not without humor. The whole cast is pitch perfect. I did not feel good afterwards, for all the right reasons.

The Naked Kiss 1964
Only Sam Fuller could have made this movie, and only Sam Fuller could have made it work. It's got a half dozen different genres balancing against each other and the effect is electrifying. Really makes you realize how timid today's filmmakers usually are.

Michael Glover Smith's fourth film and his best yet. He very confidently juggles a large ensemble of characters, giving each one their own choice moments without it feeling contrived. They're all recognizable, flawed human beings sketched out with compassion. But he also doesn't offer excuses for anyone's behavior.
