    i love romcoms so much, especially this era. and i love renee zellweger, incredible that she did chicago immediately after this and got oscar noms for both! i’ve watched a good bunch of heavier films and more challenging watches for this years MAW and this was a nice reset - fun and silly, stakes are not incredibly high or stressful, etc. especially loved the end where bridget runs out after mark in the snow in her underwear. it’s a cute…

    incredibly minimalist and slow. very nearly completely comprised of almost painstakingly long takes, and these often turn quite meditative. everything pretty much happens in real time more or less, and there’s no choice but to sit and watch and wait. there’s only a few sentences of dialogue and when the first line is spoken on screen, it feels jarring. we’ve become so accustomed to the silence of characters that it doesn’t actually feel like we’re supposed to hear it

    decided to watch this because i saw it on criterion’s list of films leaving the channel at the end of the month. i feel all over the map on this one. overall it’s incredibly unique, i’ve never seen anything like it. there’s some very beautiful visuals. at times, i think the absurdity of the false mythology of pre-apocalyptic pop culture loses its effect. this may have worked even better as a 30min or less short. i loved how quiet this…
