I’ve never seen a movie with such a verbose, pompous, and self indulgent dialogue that manages to say nothing within an offensively long run time. One thing of note, is that despite the stunning scenery of Naples (and other parts of Italy), the cinematography its self was actually quite unimpressive. There were maybe two scenes I found to be enjoyable, which amounts to maybe 20 minutes of the entire thing. I get it, parthenope is like naples, the director totally…

Terrible and on the nose and extremely goofy and you can tell which scenes they reshot. Not even gonna think of a clever quip or be critical, this was just really bad.

Eggers was really in his bag with this one. The tension he builds with the camera work and music was actually chilling at times. And the sound design of the count and his breathing and accent was genuinely really creepy which says a lot because they usually make this style of vampire kind of goofy. Cast held it down (other than some side characters but it’s fine). Puritan wives having desires is the birth of these kinds of stories, so they inherently aren’t always going to be the most interesting in my opinion, but for what it was I enjoyed it and was creeped out.

Dennis has to be considered one of the goats and especially one of the sci fi goats with this one. Dune is so lore/detail heavy that this movie probably deserved another 30+ minutes of run time to fully explain certain things but it still did a good job of delivering all the important details. Austin butler was so good in this I was really impressed with every performance (except zendayas was giving me hardcore Disney vibes). Def watch in imax if you can! Thanks unklerunk for the early screening access
