More emotionally accessible and lighthanded than most directors' passion projects, this is an underseen gem. At times it seems as inspired by Baraka as its more narrative-driven influences Yo Ho Ho and Princess Bride, but that's okay: the visuals are stunning, and they don't cost the movie its heart.
Had it been made ten years earlier, I imagine the Fall would have been a key text in postmodern cinema studies -- we were all obsessed with deconstructed stories back then.…
