the stylistic and directorial choices range from deeply touching to gimmicky & on the nose with dizzying switch-ups between these two extremes... a mixed bag that ultimately succeeds in my book mostly because of the strength of the story (colson whitehead always hits the nail right on the head both narratively and emotionally)

the only way i can make sense of this winning the award for "best screenplay" at cannes is if all other contenders had none and were fully improvised. it genuinely feels like this was made only for social media engagement. one star for the special effects which i also hated however i gotta give credit where credit's due
