I had seen some Tarantino flicks before but never really understood his reputation until this one. (Remember all the foot stuff in Django Unchained?)

That said, it's a fun ride with a great soundtrack. The pacing ia unusual in a way that really benefits the viewing experience. The 2007-era texting is the icing on the cake. The female characters/friendships feel believable, which probably would have been a make-or-break issue for this film.

I'm not super keen on a "girl power"…

It's fun, it's cute, it's got an ambiguous ending that leaves you thinking. Verhoeven is always a lot of fun, and this film is no exception. The "it's the future but everyone still dresses like it's the 80s" thing was very amusing. (Yes, more amusing in 2025 than it would have been in 1990, but still funny.)

That said, I can't get away from watching this as a film adaptation of Philip K. Dick's work, and in that category it falls pretty flat next to, e.g., A Scanner Darkly or Minority Report.

Obviously not a "good movie" by regular standards, but fun enough if B-movies (especially HK ones) are your thing.

Giving it 3 stars just for the miniature work in the last act. If you're a fan of Italian horror, the intro to Danger 5, or other miniature work on video, the care taken in the miniature scenes will not disappoint.

Honestly though, you might want to just fast forward to that part. You won't miss much.
