"Rapior, et quo nescio, sed rapior" - Seneca
["I am taken, and whither I know not, but I am taken"]
Arthouse idiot. Insufferable nerd.

By big, mainstream standards: fabulous
By Sean Baker standards: a little disappointing
This film does great work with the pacing, lighting, themes (watching Ani, whose job is in some sense bringing the party, get to be brought to a party; the part about name meanings,) and the dry humor ("I don't have Instagram, I'm an adult, man" lives rent free.) Definitely a "crowd pleaser" as everyone has been calling it, for better and for worse.
Obviously not a "good movie" by regular standards, but fun enough if B-movies (especially HK ones) are your thing.
Giving it 3 stars just for the miniature work in the last act. If you're a fan of Italian horror, the intro to Danger 5, or other miniature work on video, the care taken in the miniature scenes will not disappoint.
Honestly though, you might want to just fast forward to that part. You won't miss much.

Pros:
Cats
Sound design
Nice to see a vampire who looks like proper grotesque, bloodsucking fiend (no disrespect to Lost Boys or Buffy). I like the design of Orlok though I know it's been getting a lot of flack for not being like the 1922 version. He looks like an undead Romanian count who also likes to kill in gruesome and physically intimate ways. What else do I need?
Set and costume design
Acting, especially Rose-Depp and McBurney
Having Orlok…
