This may very well be Nolan’s best film. He manages to make a three hour historical drama/biopic utterly enthralling from beginning to end. It slows a bit in the third hour due to losing a strain of the story, but it only feels that way due to it moving at breakneck speed for the first two hours. Even the third hour is seat-grippingly exciting to me. It’s also often something people say with movies that deal with multiple time frames,…

David Lynch is not necessarily unique because his films (and shows) exude that same feeling and vibe time and again. Lots of filmmakers can do that. Lynch is extraordinary because his style is so recognizable yet damn near impossible to truly recreate. So much of it is showing how close the line is between pristine wholesomeness and deranged perversion. All of humanity has this line somewhere in them, and Lynch shows what we’re capable of in our darkest corners under…

Far from the first person to note this phenomenon, but it really is amazing how in the last half century or so, people like this - rural, white, poor, and uneducated - have shifted from fighting for themselves and their rights against the wealthy and powerful, to siding with the wealthy and powerful because those in power have convinced them to be afraid of every other group. Watching this seems like it’s a truly different world.

Good ending but the rest unfortunately felt like a bit of a slog considering it’s not even 90 minutes long.

Ridley Scott recutting this yet again - “No no guys, this is the final cut. Trust me. I’ll even call it “The Final Cut.””

But really, this is a masterpiece and Scott should be applauded for caring about his art and vision years after release. The world-building, done so with such little in-depth exposition, is just *chef’s kiss.*

I often go into hyped up brand new films with a bit of skepticism, and I did the same with this one. But this film shook the skepticism off of me and led me on a wild, energetic, fun, and frenetic ride for the next 2+ hours.

This film does so much well. Its continual tonal/inspirational references work with or without knowledge of the material. They don’t feel like just another Easter Egg thrown in for a boost of dopamine,…
