  The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie 2024

  It was a cute Looney Tunes story told over ninety minutes. The animators paid tribute to a couple different styles without trying to get in your face about it. It didn't exactly blow (haha) me away, but I'm glad it exists.

  Still more interesting than any of the trailers that preceded it (Snow White, The Smurfs, The Minecraft Movie).

  Wow wow wow, might be my new favorite movie. Purestrain fun stupidity from start to finish. I could listen to Anna Tsuchiya roll her r's all day long. Another one of a burgeoning genre of early 00's period pieces that are just now coming into their own.

  Going in, it bugged me that Anno got top billing considering he wasn't directing this, but the first third was almost exactly the "Shin ___" formula applied to the AU concept of Zeon winning the One Year War. It's not until the second third do we see Tsurumaki's style really come into play (with a cheeky FLCL reference, even!). It was good to see the CG mechanical work from the Rebuild movies get reused here, and the dynamic action reminiscent…
