Demi Moore's performance and confidence to play the main character really impresses me about this film. Pretty obivous commentary on patriarchal systems causing women to fear aging because it becomes an actual punishment in capitalist systems. The fear of being seen as "useless" because you can no longer work anymore. Why Sparkle cannot do anything for the weeks she cannot perform labor.
