God WHY DID WE NOT CAST JOHN WAYNE AS A VILLAIN ALL THE TIME. He is so magnetically scary in this film.
This felt like the little brother to what Howard Hawks would master a decade later with Rio Bravo. That said, this is such a fun time, some of the most fun I've had with one of these classic westerns. It also explores some interesting stuff here especially with the father-son relationship that is really what keeps you glued…

This movie was by far the most frustrating watch this year so far, which is extended by the fact that I was really looking forward to watching this. From the surface, it really seems like a film with a lot to offer, with an Oscar-winning performance from Sam Rockwell, breathtaking cinematography, and an intriguing premise about a battle of wills between local police and a strong-willed mother determined to do the right thing.
How could it screw this up so…
