Watching this, I kept wanting it to be a Shane Black movie instead. But as it is, it’s a decent demo reel for Leitch and 87 North.

The Coffee Table 2022
This “transgressive horror/comedy” shit must be catnip for bearded film festival attendees (and TikTok, it seems). Like all the other “mOsT F*CkeD uP MoviEs LiKe EveR,” its crassness and pacing is its ultimate downfall. Maybe the anxiety it was trying to achieve would’ve been better in a short form. Instead we get 90 minutes that feel like 4 hours of tedium and anxiety that I could’ve gotten at the DMV.
Much like “(insert new movie) got a 7.5 minute standing ovation at Cannes,” I don’t want to hear about your edgy Fantastic Fest programmers any more.
