This is what the term “hidden gem” was made for. A very clever and creepy slasher with something different to say. It focuses on the things actresses have to go through in the process of auditioning for eccentric directors with an abusive streak. Well written, acted, and shot. Curtains deserves to be rediscovered.

The Monster 1925
Lon Chaney is the reason you watch this. His performance is terrifying, a showcase of what an actor can do with his face to show a whole encyclopedia of emotions. The movie is considered the first “dark house” horror movie, though it’s mixed up with comedy as well. Would’ve worked better as a straight up horror movie, but it is great fun and you can see all the movies it influenced later on.
