I admire and appreciate what Vertov accomplished, built on Eisenstein's ideas; this idea of using pure image to convey an idea or theme within a setting with montage. The idea of slowing down to really explore Russia's cities more broadly, provided a more romantic poetry I could enjoy over Eisenstein's aggressive style. While I'm not a fan of the academic framework, I do think this is mandatory viewing for any aspiring director or cinematographer who needs to learn how to set up a damn camera.

The Fall of the House of Usher 1928
It's not fair that a film with this much atmosphere (as only the French can do) is so shortchanged by the times. The production makes the picture seem older than it is, but if had been made later, it could've benefited from diegetic recorded audio. So much of the latter half is dependent on a montage of shots all over the manor with candles, animals, weather, and more and I wanted to hear that add to the atmosphere.

Am I Racist? 2024
I was twisted in knots as every interview sent me back to college classes brimming with equal atmosphere. The comedy was hard to enjoy because I’ve seen these conversations, and in rare occasions, been a part of them. Which is why I find the extreme reactions bizarre; it’s not that funny but it’s also incredibly honest about an ideological grip in academia.
