A Real Pain 2024
Benji’s strong-arming and unpredictable emotional outbursts gave me more anxiety than the Saw series ever could. And yet I don’t hate his character, which speaks volumes of Culkin’s compelling acting and Eisenberg’s thoughtful directing. Would watch again.

On at least my third rewatch of this, I STILL ended up BURSTING into tears at that achingly long closing scene, at which that exact second my partner (first viewing) burst out, “Okay we GET IT, he’s sad.”
So I guess the story is more effective on some people than others.

For what it is, it’s decent. First 15 min are pretty blasé but it gets better as a rom com, especially at the Keanu Reeves midway point. Honestly, his scenes bring this a whole star higher for me. Not bad for a rom com and I genuinely laughed at a few parts. God bless Keanu
