I LIKED a lot of the action: there were a couple of real satisfying 'fuck yeah' moments. I liked how the story was simple and straightforward: the characters had to get from one side of the train to the other. I liked some of the characters: the baseball team (although I wish there was more scenes with them fighting off the zombies), the doting but no-nonsense, tough-guy husband. I DIDN'T LIKE how so much of the movie was eye-rollingly melodramatic:…
The star of this film is definitely the visuals and the music. The colors of the sets and outfits were pretty and inspiring, and the reoccurring main theme has been stuck in my head (which I love). Though Genevieve and Guy's relationship lacked any real feeling of substance for me, the 'love' that was portrayed still felt terribly romantic. I can see how this film inspired and informed Damien Chazelle in making 'La La Land'.
It's unfortunate how much a Jackie Chan film loses a lot of entertainment value when it's produced in America and without Jackie Chan helmed as the director. The stunts aren't as impressive and the fight scenes feel too much like choreography. Nevertheless, I enjoyed Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson's chemistry and thought the movie was fun to watch.
