An unflinching portrait of a scene that my parents, and many family friends, were a part of. One of the rare movies that captures the raw, visceral energy of live shows, sometimes captured in beautifully abstract shots of moshers careening around in the pit and electric concert performances from LA legends, sometimes in detached, straightforward footage of musicians and fans alike acting like fucking morons. Either way, it's impossible to look away.

Being There 1979
Wow, I really, really hated this movie. It's like a weirder, almost self-aware Forrest Gump, which might make it worse, somehow. Everything about this film is contrived, from Peter Seller's performance, to Caleb Deschanel's too beautiful documentary, to the stilted pacing and the idiocy displayed by every character in this movie. It's one of those stories where every dumb misunderstanding could be cleared up instantly if someone just asked Seller any kind of question about his past that normal people…

A very ambitious film that falls very short. The theme is muddled, and scenes and ideas are stretched out interminably. While I admire some of the formal experiments Anderson was trying to pull off, this film was just a chore to watch.
