  I was a little apprehensive going into this one fearing a rehash of 'Defending Jacob', but thankfully I was in a for a surprise. A surprise not founded by twists and turns or enigmatic mysteries, but by solid screenwriting, almost never-before-seen camera work, and some superlative acting (boy, the acting in this series, I say!).

  If ever there was an anti thesis to the saying "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts", it probably has to be Thangalaan. Every scene stands out in some way or the other, but when put together its an incoherent mess. Ranjith has a lot of interesting ideas here but is unable to marry the real with the mystical.   When you WANT to like something, you more often than not like it more than should be liking it. I'm not sure if that's why I liked this film a lot, but if it is indeed the case, then the reason for that has to be Mamooty.
