  It was fine… obviously beautifully made and the soundtrack is moving—to be expected of any Ghibli film (we don’t speak of Earwig) and when she sings an entire song in the fields… it was tender and lovely.
  What really bothered me was how thin(?) the characters felt and how flimsy their drives were for a story with such big stakes. Things are resolved too easily. And note, Howls Moving Castle is my favorite Ghibli, so absurd and spontaneous relationships don’t bother me. But you can’t pack big factors like dragons, magic, slavery, etc etc… and show absolutely no turmoil!!

  So so fun and visually spectacular! The Dali-esque title scenes and insular world-building despite the many different adventures was pulled off really well..
  More humorous and heartwarming than expected
  It’s just a treat to see Ruffalo acting like a dickwad and also Ramy Youssef in a film
