  My Bloody Valentine 1981

  Another classic under the belt. Liked this a lot; felt like it avoided the usual pitfalls of the slasher genre (although there’s still the questionable decision not to bring in reinforcements because of ‘inciting panic’) and the final setting of the mine is a lovely underground maze to get nice and claustrophobic in, plus it’s an active working mine rather than the usual spooky abandoned mine - again, a refreshing switch-up. Fantastic ending, too (although a shame what eventually came of it).

  This fucking rips. Incredible score and Dario delivers on his locations; even though it’s set in Rome he deliberately avoids the obvious trappings and makes Rome feel much more like an actual lived-in city instead of the archetypal tourist destination we know it as today. The plot winds around itself and you’re given a veritable laundry list of suspects and brother do you go through them - plus there’s a Deep Red/Crystal Plumage style ‘you missed this the first time’…
