The Wretched 2019
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The forgetting curse is fun and original (I think?) and a genuinely gut wrenching concept, so points for that.
However, it would’ve been so much more effective in a better movie, perhaps that focuses on its key characters’ traumatising experiences of forgetting and effectively abandoning their nearest and dearest. Instead, it obsesses itself with cheap horror cliches; cracking bones, Cervid-oriented imagery and general scuttling shenanigans etc…
The Wretched does have genuinely effective scares, but the cinematography, soundtrack, character writing and subsequent performances are generally forgettable and just not as compelling as they could have been.
