    Just reminded me how terrible being a kid can be. Your ‘freedom’ is real but at the same time so heavily circumscribed and time bounded. Inside the school and home you are subject to various forms of arbitrary authority and attempts to exercise agency outside of strictly defined norms are generally punished.

    The adult world seems to offer freedom from the school and the home, limited in different ways by the boss, landlord and cash nexus. When you’re young though…

    The espionage/marriage metaphor is a good one and is played more for fun here than the slightly sadistic Notorious. Fassbender and Blanchett’s solid relationship isn’t based on total transparency but trust. The other couples are constantly getting drunk and spilling their guts about national security while lying to each other about their sordid office affairs. Everyone needs their little secrets as long as they’re the right ones.

    A fun time at the movies. Enjoyable performances from Pattinson and Ruffalo doing a Trump voice (“spectacular”). As someone who has tried and failed many times to get the Trump voice right I have to respect the professionals on this one.
