Wes Anderson makes films for lovers of acting and unconventional art, and so Asteroid City is certainly a new gold piece of cinematic finesse. Blockbuster fans and fans of plot that has been thought through to infinity might miss out, but fans of outstanding scenery and unique acting, paired with a socio-critical approach, will get their money's worth. Unfortunately, there are minimally boring sequences in between, but still the overall package is right and leaves the viewer equally thoughtful and amazed.
Imagine that someone makes a film about a great empire that is about to collapse. Now imagine that someone equates this empire with the Roman Empire and serves us all the faults of human existence in this Western reality on a silver platter.
How can you tell so many stories and still maintain a common thread, let alone a structure? It can't work. If you want to tell all this, a narrative structure is destructive.
