Very good setup, and there's a lot of silliness to the second half of the movie. I feel like the tonal shift works in some ways and doesn't in others - you spend the first half getting this noir, conspiracy plotline, then in the second half you get like Nemo's Island, terribly unintimidating flame-thrower tank, and weird robot hand villain. Hilarious but not particularly effective.

    Overall entertaining.

Good as far as 80s fantasy hero's quests go! Valerian (the female lead) doesn't get fridged or removed from the plot once she becomes a love interest, which is good, but she is certainly made less competent towards the end of the film, annoyingly.

Galen (male lead) was likeable enough, but I didn't find him that memorable.

The plot, setting and practical effects were where I felt the movie to be strongest. The magical elements were the most interesting thing…

This was... a lot. I felt like the concept was strong at the start, but failed to keep me interested throughout. Body horror's not really my thing, but I feel that the effect of it began to lose meaning the further the movie progressed. However the production, sets and practical effects were on point.

Very fun and bizarre! Amazing set design, fun adventure, with some creepy and dark themes, and a lovely score. Especially liked the progression of the sibling-like relationship between One and Miette that builds throughout the movie, super cute!
