  it sometimes feels like the genre of "first-gen immigrant experience" is oversaturated -- how many times can we talk about the white kids making fun of our stinky, ethnic lunch? yet, minari reminded me that there is still much to be said. there were so many moments that somehow perfectly encapsulated the child of immigrants experience. the love-hate relationship between david and his halmoni, the half-believing/half-mocking of cultural superstitions, the ziplock spice baggies. there were times when it felt that the film relied on these relatable vignettes to overcome pacing issues, but i didn't mind that much. really really loved!!
