    It's great fun, but not every element of it entirely works. Some stuff feels half baked and over cranked, but all the while Bong is putting on a show. It's great entertainment, Pattinson is a great fun in his run of wackos, and the trademark black comedy Bong adores is here in spades.

    Entertaining, with a game cast, but almost hurried to the extent that few scenes have the crackle or tension they deserve to. This film warrants a little more breathing room on it so the twists and reveals sing. Like so much latter-half Soderbergh it's too efficient for its own good.

    While its reputation is now one that is slightly mocked, Taylor Hackford's romantic drama has a real sense of time and place with riveting performances and is a riveting watch despite a few contrived unnecessary scenes towards its conclusion.     A fairly anodyne silver haired dramedy elevated by a few choice things.

    Firstly, Paul Newman. He's simply brilliant here; making an asshole utterly human and likeable. He never hides the darkness and spite in the character but the charm is obvious throughout.

    Two, it's actually funny. Genuinely so, which for a film about a cantankerous old letch in a blue collar town is quite the surprise.
