As someone who spends most of my waking hours studying fathers, I expected to have an affinity for this film. Boy, did I ever...

One of the most memorable, convincing, and heart-wrenching portraits of family life that I’ve ever seen. Completely engaging through nearly three hours.

In my view, it also makes an important, if unintentional, contribution to sociolegal commentary about parenthood. So long as we legally define kinship in ways that value biology over nurturance, familial injustices will continue to flourish, and these injustices will disproportionately affect LGBT parents and children.
