Asks some really great questions, has some really good characters and builds a pretty fun world. Then it shits on itself miserably with the ruffalo character and the clash of the humans and the native inhabitants of niflheim. The conflict that ultimately takes center stage is the worst part of the movie and the one that drags it on longer than it should.

Earns its ending in a way I thought the Brutalist didn’t quite. The last 45 minutes is really engaging, in a way that enhances the beginning but also exposes the slow burn. I think the director directs hard. Love the leads, love the angle of the first person. Really interested to catch it a 2nd time

I think the ending of the movie tries to straddle a line it doesn’t earn. Rarely you say this but it really could’ve had another 10-15 minutes because the main performance was so good and compelling and the camera loves her so.

I didn’t want to compare it to the first but the problem is it endeavors to evoke the first at every corner in a way that it’s impossible not to. And in that way it doesn’t live up. The fighting is less special and more CGI, the characters are less developed Denzel aside and what made the first special has already been shown.

Denzel IS COOKING though. I’m glad this canvas existed for him to paint something amazing. Pedro pascals lone colosseum appearance is electric and there’s enough Ridley magic to make this a thumbs up.
