  The movie is a little less interested in being compelling on its face than with its themes, and much happens in service of the plot, to the point where it’s almost eye rolly, and some of the more interesting parts even get cut short. But if there was ever a reward made for us that brought their wives to the theater to watch two monogamous, dedicated sickos unravel a government conspiracy this movie is it

  Helluva performance at the center - and made even more propulsive when the sisters are balanced. I think there’s a lot to be desired around the edges, some of the unpacking is choppy and the end is unsatisfying

  I think the ending of the movie tries to straddle a line it doesn’t earn. Rarely you say this but it really could’ve had another 10-15 minutes because the main performance was so good and compelling and the camera loves her so.

  Gladiator II 2024

  I didn’t want to compare it to the first but the problem is it endeavors to evoke the first at every corner in a way that it’s impossible not to. And in that way it doesn’t live up. The fighting is less special and more CGI, the characters are less developed Denzel aside and what made the first special has already been shown. 

  Denzel IS COOKING though. I’m glad this canvas existed for him to paint something amazing. Pedro pascals lone colosseum appearance is electric and there’s enough Ridley magic to make this a thumbs up.
